In a horrific case of urban crime, a 50-year-old man has died after being carried on the bonnet of his car while he was trying to prevent it from being stolen.
According to RTE, Ian McDonnell tried to stop his Volkswagen Passat from being taken from his business premises by some thugs who wouldn’t stop but instead carried Mr. McDonnell on the bonnet of the car for some distance in Clondalkin.
He was taken to Tallaght University Hospital after being found on the road with what were described as “serious life-threatening injuries”. Despite the best efforts of his medical team, he could not be saved.
The local community has been shocked by the incident and the death of Mr. McDonnell, a father-of-three. Gardai have launched an investigation and are appealing to the public for help.
