A grandma was gravely hurt in an e-scooter accident that occurred in Dublin last year, and a man has been charged with reckless driving causing death, reports RTE.
The incident happened on Eccles Street at about 3pm on June 20. Mary Bernie, who was in her 80s, was critically hurt in the crash and died three days later at the Mater hospital.
After being taken into custody this morning, 28-year-old Aaron Gumble appeared at Dublin District Court.
Mr. Gumble, of Drumalee Park, North Circular Road in Dublin, is charged with driving dangerously and taking an e-scooter from the Mater Hospital on Eccles Street, which resulted in Ms. Bernie’s death, reports RTE.
In addition, he faces charges of hit-and-run since he left the car at the site.
At this point, the accused was not requesting bail, according to Judge Monika Leech.
Garda Ciaran Cummins changed one of the charges to read “e-scooter” instead of “bike,” reports RTE.
Gda Cummins also stated he planned to object to bail, and he informed the court that Mr. Gumble “made no reply to the charges”.
Mr. Gumble did not speak to the court but instead waved to a member of the public gallery. He has not yet entered a plea, reports RTE.
