Man in court after 65-yr-old female tourist allegedly ‘dragged down Dublin laneway in predatory robbery’

A 65-year-old tourist returning to his hotel in Dublin was dragged into an alley with mud during a “predatory” robbery, a court heard, reports The Mirror.

Ryan Dunne, 24, of Rahen Park, Ballyfermot, Dublin, was refused bail today after gardaí charged him with offenses in the Bachelor Walk and Bachelor Way areas on Tuesday night.

Opposing bail, gardaí Patrick Hynes told Dublin County Court they arrested the accused in Abbey Street after the 9:10pm incident.

He told Judge John Brennan that the woman was walking back to her apartment when the accused allegedly dragged the alien to the ground and across the street.

An officer at Bridewell claimed that the accused had dropped her purse and fled.

Gardaí added that there was CCTV evidence that there was a ““clear premeditated element to this incident” and that the defendants used force. He claimed Don later identified himself on the tape, which the defense disputed.

The lawyer told the officer that the items taken from the woman’s bag were found next to a garbage can about 10 meters away, reports The Mirror.

Garda Hynes told the court he was driving with the defendant, who collapsed next to a rubbish bin and the items were recovered.

Mr Walsh told the court his client disputed the charges and argued there was insufficient evidence to deny bail.

Garda Hynes said his bail concerns were based on the “predatory nature” of the alleged incident.

Direction of the Director of Public Prosecutions should be sought in this regard. Dunne is charged with theft and robbery under the Fraud Act, reports The Mirror.

Judge Brennan said the defendant was presumed innocent but refused bail and remanded him in custody to appear in Cloverhill District Court next week.

Dunne, who did not go to court, was granted legal aid after a judge declared him unemployed.
