Christopher McCarthy, 50, was convicted last July for sexually abusing his niece in 1984 and 1989.
McCarthy has been jailed for two years after the abuse of his niece since she was 9 years old. Two counts of the abuse took place on Christmas morning and at a gala Cork GAA function.
His jail sentence was ordered yesterday at Cork Circuit Criminal Court. It is believed that there is a second case of sexually abuse on another one of this niece’s. It is also believed that he gave money to one of his niece’s to try and bribe her silence.
It has also been pointed out that McCarthy is at high risk of re-offending. McCarthy was also ordered to register on the Sex Offenders list.
