A dad who ‘refused to leave’ hospital after being told to see a GP was later diagnosed with a terminal leukaemia.

According to the Metro, Gareth Dixon attended at hospital with hip and rib cage pain after finding it difficult to get to see his local GP practice in the weeks beforehand.  After waiting for 20 hours he was finally seen by a doctor who told him to get an appointment with his GP.  But Mr. Dixon refused to accept this and insisted that he get a blood test.  When the results came back he was horrified to be told that he had a form of cancer called Plasma Cell Leukaemia.

Since receiving his shocking diagnosis, Mr. Dixon has been spending time with his family.  He has prepared a bucket list and hopes that his treatment will help him get as much time as possible to make memories with them.

The hospital has apologised for the delay Mr. Dixon dealt with in A&E while attempts are currently being made to improve access to GP services.
