A man was in hospital in serious condition after experiencing difficulties while swimming off the coast of Bundoran in County Donegal, reports RTE.
The Irish Coast Guard received a report around 5.20pm Saturday that someone was struggling in the water near Bundoran Beach.
Marine Rescue Sub Centre Malin Head dispatched the Bundoran RNLI lifeboat to respond to the incident, reports RTE.
The man had gotten into trouble near the diving boards section of the beach, and it’s believed lifeguards who were present at the time also assisted in the rescue.
He was brought from the water by the RNLI crew.
An ambulance transported him to Sligo University Hospital, where he was being treated and remains in serious condition, reports RTE.
Sadly, it’s been confirmed this evening that the man has passed away.
