Man smashes car window with an axe to rescue dog from sweltering hot car

A man in the UK has been praised for his swift actions after he used an axe to rescue a distressed dog from a sweltering hot car.

According to Metro.co.uk,the man who has been praised by many on social media used the axe after he and a number of passer-bys came across the distressed dog at a retail car park in Newbury, Berkshire, on Wednesday.

In footage which has been viewed over 30,000 times on Facebook, the man can be seen trying to rescue the dog who was panting heavily inside the car with temperatures reaching 34C outside.

Metro reports that the incident which garnered the attention of local police officers who were stopping for lunch in the area at the time thankfully ended in the dog being successfully removed from the car.

It is understood that the dog was taken into the care of police until a vet arrived at the scene who checked the dog over following its ordeal.

The incident has led to the RSPCA to issue a warning to the public reminding them not to leave pets inside a car as ambient temperatures of 22C can reach up to 47C inside a car within an hour.
