
After being accused of attacking two off-duty gardaĆ in Dublin’s Temple Bar, where one of the officers was critically injured, a man was denied bail, reports RTE.
Early on Saturday morning, Jonathan O’Neill, 32, of Cromcastle Road, Kilmore, Dublin, was accused of assaulting and injuring the two males at Eustace Street, Dublin 2.
He is also charged with stealing the wallet and phone of one of the males, reports RTE.
Outside a pizza, both were unconscious and knocked to the ground. One of them has had two surgeries and is still in serious condition in the ICU.
The second man, who has since been released, allegedly had injuries to his face and lip in addition to a concussion, reports RTE.
When he showed up in Dublin District Court, Judge Paula Murphy refused to grant him bail.
After being charged at Pearse Street Garda Station, Detective Sergeant Paul Carney reported that Mr. O’Neill did not respond.
Citing the gravity of the matter, he objected to bail, reports RTE.
Mr. O’Neill has not yet indicated a plea and did not address the court.
According to his attorney, Mr. O’Neill will abide by the terms of his bond, reports RTE.
After being denied bail and ordered in detention to appear in court again on Friday, legal assistance was granted.
Directions must be obtained from the DPP by the GardaĆ, reports RTE.
