The man died in a traffic accident on Christmas Eve has been identified by police as John Hanna of Downpatrick, reports The Mirror.

Shortly before 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday, the 34-yr-old was killed in a single-vehicle collision on Ballynahinch’s Downpatrick Road.

In addition to continuing their investigation into the collision’s circumstances, the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s (PSNI) Collision Investigation Unit has issued a call to action for any witnesses who may have seen a grey Volkswagen Polo in the vicinity at the time of the tragedy.

Inspector Cherith Adair, from the Collision Investigation Unit said: “Police received a report at approximately 4.45pm, that a car had been involved in a collision. Officers attended, alongside our colleagues from partner emergency services. Sadly, the driver died at the scene. The Downpatrick Road, which was closed for a period of time following the collision, has since re-opened,” reports The Mirror.

“Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating the circumstances of the collision, and would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the grey VolksWagen Polo or anyone who may have captured dash-cam or other footage which could assist with our enquiries.
