Management at Dublin’s Beaumont Hospital have advised people to visit their GP before attending the hospital’s Emergency Department because of severe overcrowding problems.

The call comes after the hospital’s Emergency Department saw an increase in patients over the past week. The situation the reportedly got worse after the hospital experienced an outbreak of the winter vomiting bug and influenza.

In a brief statement the hospital management have said they fully acknowledge the difficult conditions for both patients and staff, and they are working hard to address the curren overcrowding situation.
