Following Tuesday’s IT malfunction that prevented patients from accessing their electronic health information, Mater Hospital has issued a warning to the public to stay away from its emergency department (ED), reports Irish Times.
According to the hospital, patients who come to the ED with “non-urgent conditions” would probably have to wait “lengthy” periods of time due to IT problems.
The hospital advised patients in need of emergency treatment to “not delay and to seek such care,” noting that they “will be seen.”
The hospital released a statement saying, “Wherever possible, the Mater advises patients with non-emergency conditions to seek assistance from other parts of the health service, such as other minor injury units or their GP,” reports Irish Times.
Since the problems first appeared on Tuesday, it is thought that the reason of the IT problems has not yet been identified.
Due to technical difficulties, the Mater’s Rapid Injury Clinic in north Dublin’s Smithfield Square is presently closed.
The IT problems are not affecting outpatient visits, according to the Mater.
The hospital released a statement saying, “We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this has caused the public and want to reassure our patients that the hospital is making every effort to resolve the issue as soon as possible,” reports Irish Times.
