McDonald: I’ve no confidence in this Government they need to pull themselves together

The Sinn Fein leader Mary Lou McDonald has said that she has no confidence in the Government and doesn’t know how anybody can following the extension of Level 5 restrictions.

Speaking to RTE News, the Sinn Fein leader said that the latest measures will bring huge levels of stress to people across the country as they face six more weeks of heavy restrictions.

Although McDonald gave her support to the phased reopening of schools, she said given the actions of the Government over the last number of weeks I would fail to see how people have confidence in the Government.

McDonald said i have no confidence in the Government and I fail to see how anybody in real terms could have confidence in them given the confusion, dithering and rivalry going on.

The Sinn Fein leader also said that the Government have been reckless in their approach to the issue of mandatory quarantine and we are in situation where we don’t have the capacity to contact trace people who enter the country.

McDonald added that the Government needs to pull themselves together and they need to give themselves a shake, and what we need now is a steady, thoughtful sustainable plan to get us out of these restrictions and to keep people safe thereafter.
