Minister for Justice Helen McEntee refuted claims that the government had “backed down” in response to demonstrations in Ballinrobe and Carlow regarding housing for male asylum seekers, reports Breaking News.
She told Newstalk Breakfast that accommodating women and families was the “first priority,” which regrettably meant that there was occasionally no space available for male applicants for international protection.
Additionally, Ms. McEntee expressed her “complete confidence” in the gardaĂ, who were looking into arson attacks in Galway and Dublin on properties thought to be housing male applicants.
“We are doing everything we can to respond to a very challenging situation. We want to provide a roof over everyone’s head,” the Minister added, reports Breaking News.
