A significant cold blast is expected to replace the recent pleasant temperatures, so Ireland is prepared for a surprise weather U-turn. Although Met Eireann has stated that temperatures will drop starting this weekend, Ireland may have its first significant taste of winter weather the following week, reports The Mirror.
Much of the country may get snowfall over the course of the next week, according to long-range weather models, which are famously prone to alter this far in advance.
According to their predictions, the first flurries may start on Sunday, December 29th, in the northwest and then progressively move to other regions over the next several days until clearing by next Friday, reports The Mirror.
Temperatures are expected to drop sharply, with some regions perhaps seeing lows of -5C on weather maps, in addition to the possibility of snow. Next Tuesday, December 31, is predicted by the models to be exceptionally chilly, with temps perhaps lingering at -5C until noon.
But it’s crucial to proceed cautiously while making these preliminary predictions. The national forecaster had previously clarified that although they “can at times provide an insight into weather patterns in the months ahead, they should not be used for specific planning purposes as they have generally low skill, because forecasts beyond one week become increasingly uncertain due to the chaotic nature of the atmosphere”, reports The Mirror.
Despite this uncertainty, it seems likely that Ireland will see a severe cold period the next week, however weather specialists are still unable to determine its precise intensity or scope.
Although “confidence is lower” in the prediction for next week, Met Eireann has issued their decision, stating that “mean air temperatures look to drop below average in parts of east Munster and south Leinster, with all other areas likely to see normal temperatures for the time of year.”
Right now, Ireland is getting a taste of colder weather. Parts of the country saw overnight lows below freezing, and all counties except Kerry are under a Status Yellow weather warning for fog. reports The Mirror.
