The national forecaster has issued a Status Yellow thunder warning for 19 counties.
According to Met Eireann, thunderstorms will develop across many areas of the country throughout the afternoon and into the early evening.
There will be torrential rain in some places, which might lead to localized flooding.
The warning will expire at 11pm tonight.
