A 40-yr-old man has been charged in relation to a hit-and-run incident that occurred in Co Kildare over the weekend and resulted in the death of a teenage boy, reports RTE.

Kedagh Moore, 16, of Graigues, Robertstown, passed away early on Sunday morning after being hit by a car on the R403 in Blackwood, close to Robertstown.

Marin Silaghi, who lives in Ballybrittas, Portlaoise, Co Laois, was charged with two crimes when he appeared in Athy District Court this morning, reports RTE.

The Garda Evidence of arrest, charge, and caution was provided by Mark Ryan of the Naas Garda Station.

According to him, Mr. Silaghi is accused of a hit-and-run under the Road Traffic Act on November 10th, neglecting to halt at the scene in order to avoid responsibility, reports RTE.

According to the court, Mr. Silaghi only arrived in Ireland eight weeks ago from Romania to work in construction, with plans to bring his wife and kids with him.

The Garda According to Ryan, three hours after Kedagh was hit, Mr. Silaghi, who turned 40 last Friday, was pulled over at a mandated drug and alcohol checkpoint in Carbury, County Kildare, reports RTE.

The Garda According to Ryan, Mr. Silaghi was detained on the hit-and-run accusation at 6:36 p.m. yesterday after being questioned at the Leixlip Garda Station. He did not respond when the charges were presented to him.

Additional charges are possible, according to Garda Ryan, reports RTE.
