A district court judge has mandated that the prison mental services examine a man accused of arson at five retail locations in Cork City and provide a report to the court by the following week, reports RTE.

Additionally, Judge Mary Dorgan mandated that Samuel Nunes Neto, a 23-yr-old with no fixed residence, have all necessary medical care at Cork Prison.

Mr. Nunes Neto made an appearance in Cork District Court, where he was charged with five charges of arson at five different retail locations inside the city.

The accusations include that he committed arson by intentionally or carelessly causing fire damage to apparel at Superdry on St. Patrick’s Street, Next on Opera Lane, and TK Maxx on Cornmarket Street, all without a valid reason, reports RTE.

In addition, he faces charges of arson for allegedly causing fire damage to clothing and the building structure at the Lifestyle Sports store on Patrick Street without a valid reason, knowing or recklessly risking that they would be harmed.

Last but not least, he faces charges of arson for allegedly setting fire to toiletries, cosmetics, fragrances, and shelves at the Boots drugstore on Half Moon Street without a valid reason or disregarding the possibility that anything might be destroyed.

Detective Sergeant Gearóid Davis filed an application to have Mr. Nunes Neto placed under house arrest for a week with the intention of appearing in district court via video connection on March 6th, 2019, stating that he is awaiting instructions from the Director of Public Prosecutions, reports RTE.
