Migrant Kamal Kumar Nepali jailed for nine years for raping Irish woman in her home while she slept

Nine years have been served in prison for a 24-yr-old migrant who broke into a woman’s house and sexually assaulted her while she was sound asleep, reports RTE.

Kamal Kumar Nepali, residing in Beech Park, Balincollig, Cork, was characterised as a predator who targeted unsuspecting ladies by breaking into many residences on the same evening.

A jury found him guilty earlier this year of eight counts, which included assault, sexual assault, rape, and trespassing against the lady on March 1, 2022, at a property close to University College Cork, reports RTE.

In addition, he was found guilty of trespassing into four more residences on the same evening.

For the remaining charges, sentences ranging from one month to five years were issued; these sentences will be served concurrently.

Mr. Justice Michael McGrath stated that Nepali did not accept the jury’s decision and had not expressed any sorrow, remorse, or sympathy for his victim, reports RTE.

According to him, there were several aggravating circumstances that elevated the offence to the level of more serious instances.

These included the fact that it occurred during a burglary and the physical brutality evident in the convictions for assault and sexual assault.

Along with the fact that he had previously been instructed to leave by another resident of the residence, the violation of the victim’s safety and sanctuary was another aggravating element, reports RTE.
