The Central Criminal Court has been informed that the 35-year-old man who killed his wife on the grounds that he thought she was possessed and had turned into a snake was experiencing psychotic illness brought on by cannabis, reports RTE.

Expert forensic psychiatrists for both the prosecution and defence reached a consensus over the diagnosis for Diego Costa Silva, who has entered a not guilty plea for the murder of his wife, Fabiole Campara de Campos Silva, age 33.

According to both doctors, Mr. Costa Silva satisfies the requirements set out by law, thus the jury might find him not guilty due to insanity.

Dr. Brenda Wright, a consulting psychiatrist, testified before the jury on behalf of the defence, reports RTE.

She informed the jury that Diego Costa Silva had a cannabis-induced psychotic condition on November 4, 2021, the day he killed his wife.

According to her, delusions, hallucinations, and aberrant thought patterns are all part of this disease.

She claimed that Mr. Costa Silva was unaware of the character and extent of his deed when he killed his wife, reports RTE.

According to the doctor, he was aware that what he was doing would kill her, but he thought his wife was possessed, had turned into a snake, and threatened his life.

Dr. Wright stated that Mr. Costa Silva’s thinking problem, which is a fundamental aspect of a psychotic condition, was evident throughout his subsequent interviews with gardaí, reports RTE.
