Second case of measles gets confirmed in Ireland

The Health Protection Surveillance Centre in Ireland has identified a second case of measles, reports RTE.

The HPSC stated that it was informed about the situation in the nation’s west yesterday.

It stated that the required public health measures are being taken in regard to the case, which is believed to be in a teenager, by the Health Service Executive’s public health teams and the HSE Measles National Incident Management Team (IMT), reports RTE.

In response to a recent spike in measles infections in the UK and around Europe, the IMT was founded.

The HSE stated that anybody with concerns should speak with their general practitioner (GP) in the meantime and that it will notify the public of any additional actions that become necessary, reports RTE.

If they are experiencing symptoms, they should call first.

An individual in his forties from Westmeath passed away last month, marking the first occurrence that has been verified and reported to Irish authorities this year.

Additionally, this marked the State’s first measles-related fatality in almost 20 years.

Health officials have developed plans to provide a measles catch-up vaccine to over 300,000 individuals, reports RTE.
