Minister for Education says it will be difficult for schools to operate under 2m rule

The Minister for Education Joe McHugh has said it will be highly difficult for schools to operate in September if the current 2m social distancing rule remains.

Speaking to RTE’s Today with Sarah McInerney programme, Minister Minister McHugh said that the Department of Education are currently looking at ways to get children back to school.

However Minister McHugh said that he can’t see all children back at school if the current social distancing measures remain in place.

The Education Minister told the programme that it is vital that children get back to school as their education cannot be put on hold.

He added that the Department of Education will look to introduce a roadmap in two weeks time which will outline how schools could reopen.

Although no official confirmation has been made, it is expected that all students will undertake a blended learning system that operates from both school and at home.
