The governor of Minnesota is set to order the state’s National Guard deploy to the city of Minneapolis as riots and looting intensify following the death of George Floyd, who was died Monday night after an incident involving Minneapolis Police officers.
All four of the officers involved in the detainment and arrest of Mr Floyd have since been fired and are under FBI investigation but this has not stopped protests which have since devolved into violence and looting.
Now after Gov. Tim Walz tweeted late Wednesday night, stating that the situation near Lake Street and Hiawatha Avenue of the cities as being in an “extremely dangerous situation” city officials of Minneapolis officially requested National Guard support for police combating rioters.
KSPT news captured footage of riots smashing into stores in the city and looting goods such as TVs and liquor in areas with seemingly no police in sight.
The situation in the city further deteriorated in the early hours of Thursday morning with several fires now burning unattended and police forced to fire rounds of tear gas at the violent mobs.
