Minister for Health Simon Harris has enthusiastically backed a new Government proposal for the harvest of human organs for the purpose of transplantation.
The new law will ‘presume’ that the person is willing to donate the organs upon death, unless the deceased has previously opted out of the scheme, or the family refuses the procedure.
According to Mr. Harris, the legislation is a ‘key’ component of the Slaintecare Action Plan, a 10-year Government plan to ‘promote health and prevent illness’ across the country, among other goals.
