Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly confirms that Ireland is to donate 700 oxygen concentrators to India

The Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly has confirmed this evening that Ireland is to donate 700 oxygen concentrators to India.

In a tweet Donnelly said: “I’m pleased to say that following work with @roinnslainte @HSELive @simoncoveney @DarraghOBrienTD over the weekend, Ireland is to offer assistance to India. An emergency donation of 700 oxygen concentrators is being made.”

“These machines will support frontline healthcare workers in India to deliver care to patients who need it. I am grateful to all those who have worked together this weekend to make this life-saving donation happen.”

“These devices draw oxygen from the air and deliver it to the patient at over 90% concentration. The donation is being made from stocks originally purchased by the HSE for use in a field hospital setting, as part of pandemic preparations.”

Transportation is being arranged through the EU Civil Protection mechanism along with Irish Aid @Irish_Aid and the Department of Foreign Affairs @dfatirl and @DeptHousingIRL
