Minister for Housing admits more needs to be done as homeless figures rise again




The Minister for Housing Eoghan Murphy has admitted that more needs to be done as the number of people homeless across Ireland has increased.

In latest figures published by the Department of Housing, it has been revealed that there was 73 more people made homeless in the month of April.

According to the figures there are now 6,584 adults and 3,794 children homeless across Ireland.

Although the number of children who are homeless dropped by 27 people, there were 100 adults made homeless last month. The overall figure now stands 10,378.

Speaking about the crisis, Minister Murphy said that the Government remains committed to addressing the issue, but admitted that it faces a big challenge.

Murphy who has come in for strong criticism in recent weeks, said the Government are looking at ways to provide more affordable social housing.

However he reiterated that co-living arrangements will form a small part of the plan to address the crisis.
