Minister for Media Catherine Martin says that the current RTE Board should stay so that the station can continue to function

Minister for Media Catherine Martin has stated that the current RTÉ Board should remain in place “for now” to ensure the smooth functioning of the organisation, reports RTE.

This comes after yesterday’s release of the Grant Thornton report on Toy Show The Musical.

Ms Martin’s statement this morning acknowledged that the report highlights serious shortcomings in governance oversight, financial management, and control procedures regarding this project.

The report discovered that the recording of sponsorship money for the show was not in compliance with accepted accounting practices, reports RTE.

Although the report does not mention any names, some of the Board members who were interviewed admitted that more questions should have been asked about the project. Despite this, five members of the board still remain in their positions.

The report revealed that there was no evidence of the Board of RTÉ recording the approval of Toy Show The Musical in the board meetings’ minutes, whether by a vote’s outcome or a consensus reached, reports RTE.
