Thousands of people can be seen in the photos crammed into swimming pools on life rings and swimming gear, with no attempts at social distancing or wearing facemasks. The revellers were drawn to a large electronic music festival held in the water park, with promoters offering discounts on swimming clothes to encourage attendance according to the Independent.
Wuhan went into strict lockdown on January 23rd when it became the first city to report Coronavirus cases, though it began to reopen in April while the rest of the world was enduring its peak cases.
Many have expressed their shock that, while across the world economies and mental health have been devastated by social distancing restrictions, such an event could be held in the pandemic’s ground zero.
Recently China has recorded relatively stable case numbers across most regions, while countries such as the United States and Brazil continue to rise in cases.
