Mixed reactions to proposal of “bodycams” for gardai with some saying “they’ll only show what they want to show”

There has been a very mixed reaction to proposed legislation giving the go ahead to members of An Gardai being allowed use “bodycams” which will record both audio and video content of incidents.

Although legislation allowing for the use of bodycams has yet to pass through the Dail, it is believed that it will pass following proposals which were outlined by the Minister for Justice Charlie Flanagan.

The Justice Minister also said the equipment will be able to capture and record any event that a Garda officer is involved and therefore will provide further security to everyone as it will capture a clear record of any particular event.

However not everyone is happy with the proposal. Some social media users have been posting that the gardai will “only show what they want to show” and will “hide anything that goes against them”. It remains to be seen how this new equipment will work, but there have been multiple problems with it in America with the reasons cited above.
