Mixed reactions to the government agreeing to introduce “fines of up to €200” for breaking covid rules

It now looks likely that people will be forking out big cash if they break the covid regulations. RTE reports that it’s likely to be €50 for no mask right up to €200 for driving outside your county – it’s going to get nasty.

In what can only be described as utterly concerning, the government have agreed to introduce graduated fines for people who are deemed non-compliant with coronavirus-related rules.

It’s understood that laws will now be written up by the Ministers for health and justice immediately. It is understood the scale of the fines has not yet been decided but many people are already speculating that they could start at €50 for non wearing of a mask to heftier €200 fines for repeat offenders.

The fines system will more than likely require the passing of legislation in the Dáil.
