According to Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg in Houston, Texas, a woman was sentenced to 40 years in prison after beating her 5-yr-old daughter to death with her belt and then lying about it.
Andrea Webb, 24, was convicted of first-degree felony battery of battery of child.
In 2019, Webb called police and told them her daughter, Samantha Bell, had fallen from the family’s second-floor balcony in southwest Houston, prosecutors said.
During the investigation, the police discovered that Samantha had bruises all over her body. When she was asked about the bruises, Webb admitted that she lied and made up the story because she was afraid of being charged with murder, prosecutors said.
Webb also admitted repeatedly beating her daughter with belts, forcing her to sit against a wall for hours without the support of a chair, and beating her if she couldn’t sit on the wall, prosecutors said.
It’s understood that her sentence has started but her legal team are considering an appeal.
