Motorists advised to be vigilant tonight as ice and fog is widespread with temps dropping to -1c

Met Eireann has said that conditions are quite dangerous tonight as fog and ice are due to be widespread as temperatures fall to -1c.

The good news is that temperatures are to rise somewhat again at the weekend but rain will also arrive.

The national forecaster said:
“It will become largely dry overnight apart from a few showers persisting near Atlantic coasts.
A chilly night with temperatures falling back to between -1C and 3C with frost forming in sheltered spots by dawn.
Northwesterly breezes will become light, and a few mist and fog patches may develop inland.
It’ll be dry and bright with sunny spells to begin on Friday, with frosts clearing.
Cloud will gradually thicken through the day, with outbreaks of rain developing in Atlantic coastal counties by late afternoon, extending eastwards to affect most parts during the evening and early night. Afternoon highs of 6C to 9C.
On Friday evening rain will spread eastwards to all areas and many places will have a wet night.
A clearance will reach the west towards morning and there’ll be lowest temperatures between 3C and 6C.”
