Motorists are being warned to exercise caution on the roads as cold conditions will continue throughout the evening and night.
According to the national forecaster, daytime temperatures will barely rise above zero, plunging to -3C/-4C after dark.
The outlook is for the current cold spell to end towards the end of the week, to be replaced by a string of Atlantic storm fronts.
