Traditionally, October and November are the worst months for rat and mouse infestations in Ireland and the latest food safety report from the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) bears this out.

Environmental health inspectors had to temporarily close down four premises last month.

The Mr Price retail store on Termonfeckin Road, Drogheda, Co Louth was issued a partial closure order after inspectors found “evidence of rodent activity” in the premises, including droppings in the staff canteen. Some boxes and packages in the store had been “gnawed”, with signs of mouse droppings nearby, which the authority said posed a risk to public health. The order directed its store room and canteen be closed reports the Irish Times.

The FSAI reported the following closures for October 2021;
Yasmin Bakery and Catering (Activities closed: The preparation of meat, fish and rice dishes through internet sites or social media sites it operates or employs advertising), 19 Wilkins View, Greenhills, Walkinstown, Dublin 12.

Damas Food Stall, trading at the corner of Robert Street and Cornmarket Row, Limerick.

Mr Price (Closed area: store room and canteen) (retailer), Aston Village, Termonfeckin Road, Drogheda, Louth.

Chai Café, 60 Dorset Street Upper, Dublin 1.
