MSC Splendida docks in Dublin Port

The vessel, one of the largest passenger ships currently in service, has arrived in our shores.

The 137,936 tonnes, 333 metre long ship entered service in 2009, after being launched by actress Sophia Loren. It can accommodate over 4,600 passengers in 1,637 cabins spread across 18 decks.

Due to its large size, Splendida’s captain was forced to enter the port stern first.

Upon disembarking, the ship’s passengers were greeted by a live céilí band, drummers, dancers and entertainment.

Dublin Port Company and the city’s council are this year promoting Dublin as a marquee destination for cruise ships. 140,000 passengers are expected to visit the city in 2015 alone.
