
Muhammad is now the most popular boys’ name for parents living in Ireland who are originally from outside the EU (excluding Ireland and the UK), with Hazel the most popular for girls, the figures showed.
According to data from the CSO, Sophie was the most common girl’s name last year, while Jack remains the most popular boy’s name, reports RTE.
In 2024, Jack, Noah, RÃan, Cillian, and James were the top five boys’ names.
Jack is in the lead for the ninth consecutive year, while Caleb’s popularity climbed the fastest, moving up from 142nd in 2023 to 91st last year, reports RTE.
Last year, Sophie, Éabha, Grace, Emily, and Fiadh were the top five names for girls.
Grace, the top pick in 2023, fell to third place and was replaced by Sophie.
According to data from the Central Statistics Office, Hallie, Rhea, Caragh, and Aurora made the list for females last year, while Rowan, Caleb, and Iarlaith made their debut appearance in the top 100 names, reports RTE.
According to CSO Statistician Seán O’Connor, Jack has been the most popular boy’s name every year since 2007, with the exception of 2016. Since 1998, both names have appeared in the top five.
Since 2016, Grace, Emily, and Sophie have ranked among the top five names for girls, reports RTE.
