A murder investigation has been opened after a woman was stabbed in County Antrim. Investigators identified her as Alyson Nelson, 64.
Ms Nelson was a former healthcare worker and is said to have been attacked at her home in the seaside town of Whitehead around 6pm on Saturday evening.
Police and paramedics responded to a suspect report but pronounced him dead at the scene.
A man has been arrested and is being questioned by the police.
According to RTE, Detective Inspector Foreman said: “We received a report at around 6.10pm that a woman had been stabbed at a property in the Victoria Avenue area of Whitehead.
“Officers attended, along with colleagues from Northern Ireland Ambulance Service.
“Sadly, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
“A man in his 60s has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in police custody.”
The PSNI have announced that they are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.
