National Children’s Hospital’s main contractor offers to withdraw from the project following overrun controversy

The main contractor behind the National Children’s Hospital has said they will withdraw from the project if the the main border asks them to do so.

According to BAM Chief Executive Theo Cullinane, the company are willing to pull out of the project if the board decides to re-tender the construction contract.

However Mr Cullinane said that the company remains committed to the project despite the controversy surrounding its cost.

He also stated that the company did not profit inappropriately from the hospital’s construction and they will continue to work with the hospital board and the PWC whilst overseeing its build.

BAM’s offer to remove themselves from the project comes after a recent PAC report found that the overall cost of building the hospital could exceed €2bn.
