New anti-water charges protest event announced for next month – promises to be biggest one yet

The people of Ireland are coming around to having to pay for water,’ Minister Alan Kelly gallantly announced in recent days, indulging his own beliefs.

There isn’t a worst blind that he who does not want to see, this journalist would retort to Mr. Kelly.

Nevertheless, the Right2Water campaign have just come up with an announcement of their own; the biggest anti-water charge protest yet will take place in Dublin at the end of August.

A spokesperson for the the group has said that “It’s very clear that this government believes the water charges issue has gone away. We intend to show them that water charges are still the number one item on the agenda.”

Gardai are gearing up for the mass gathering and will put a “policing plan” in motion, to ensure that the protest passes off peacefully.

The event will kick off at 2pm on Saturday, 29th August.
