An US-based team of scientist have carried out tests of a new cancer treatment that “trains” the human immnune system to attack cancer cells. The tests’ results have been extremely positive, according to sources.
35 terminally ill patients with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia underwent the treatment, and 94% experienced complete remission, which means their symptoms vanished.
The same treatment yielded 80% remission response in patients with other types of blood cancers.
However, the scientists have wared that a lot more work needs to be done before the new treatment becomes viable and widely used, as some patients did experience a relapse after a remission period, and seven suffered severe side effects due to an overly active immune response, with two of these patients actually dying.
