New figures suggest that the number of people signing on the Live Register will fall below 300,000, in the next few months




According to latest figures published by the Department of Social Protection the number of people signing on the Live Register will fall below 300,000, in the next few months, for the first time since 2008.

The new figures released today also showed the number of people working in Ireland exceeded two million this summer for first time since 2009.

The news of the falling unemployment figures was welcomed by Department Minister Leo Varadkar who said the new figures marks a step in the right direction, he also said his department is changing its approach to further reduce the unemployment rate over the coming months ahead.
