Police in the Australian city of Melbourne have been granted sweeping powers to enforce the country’s Draconian lockdown on the city after an additional 11 deaths were linked the Covid-19 virus.
The state of Victoria has been the hardest hit in the country by the Coronavirus with 147 people having died following a positive diagnosis with the disease but these latest increases of police power have left some Australian citizens concerend over their civil rights.
RT reports that the new restrictions imposed on the five million citizens of Melbourne by Prime Minister include
-A six-week curfew from 8pm to 5am across the entire Melbourne metro area, with the only exceptions being work, medical care and care-giving
-Outside those curfew hours the only reasons to leave your home are: shopping for food and essential items, care and care-giving, daily exercise and work.
-Daily exercise can only take place within a 5km radius of your home, cannot last longer than an hour and can’t be with more than one other person.
-You cannot buy more than two units of certain essential items, including dairy, meat, vegetables, fish and toilet paper.
-Masks are compulsory when outdoors, across the entire state.
