New National Children’s Hospital costs to rise by a further €50m

The cost of the new National Children’s Hospital could rise by a further €50m it has been revealed.

The news comes after the chair of the board of the National Children’s Hospital, Fred Barry told the Public Accounts Committee that rising costs will occur due to construction inflation.

Mr Barry who outlined the construction costs of the new hospital also revealed that the project isn’t expected to be completed until 2022 due to delays this year.

Barry who defended his handling of the project told the committee that overall costs will go over budget by between €2million and €2.9million for the year 2019.

It is expected that the overall cost of the project will exceed the €1.7bn figure which was revealed earlier this year.
