
Independent presidential candidate Catherine Connolly is currently leading by a wide margin in the race, according to a new poll conducted by Business Post/Red C.
The poll indicates that Ms Connolly has secured the backing of 36%, reports RTE.
Heather Humphreys, running for Fine Gael, stands at 25% support.
Jim Gavin, who withdrew from the race last Sunday but remains listed on the ballot, holds 12%, while 27% of respondents are still undecided, reports RTE.
After redistributing first preference votes for Mr Gavin according to expected second choice trends, Connolly’s total rises to 39%, while Humphreys moves up to 31%.
A remaining 30% of voters either have not decided or are offering non-transferable votes, reports RTE.
The survey has a margin of error of plus or minus 3%.
The online poll was carried out between 2 and 7 October, reports RTE.
This timing is notable, as Jim Gavin officially exited the race late on Sunday, 5 October.
