An emergency response drill is scheduled to take place at Dublin Airport on Wednesday to assess how well the airport and various support agencies can handle a large-scale incident, reports Breaking News.

Dublin Airport confirmed that the drill is mandated under safety guidelines and that such tests occur every two years. It will be held at 7pm on Wednesday, reports Breaking News.

The exercise will not impact any scheduled flight operations.

Participants in the drill will include airline personnel, the Dublin Airport Fire Service and Airport Police, as well as the Irish Aviation Authority, An Garda Síochána, Dublin Fire Brigade, the National Ambulance Service, the Air Accident Investigation Unit, and the Health Service Executive, reports Breaking News.

The purpose of the exercise is to evaluate how quickly and effectively all involved bodies can respond in the event of a real emergency at the airport.

Media relations manager at daa, which is the operator of Dublin Airport, Graeme McQueen, said: “The purpose of the exercise is to test the response of the agencies involved and is a requirement under licencing regulations. The exercise will not impact on flight operations and the public should not be alarmed if they see emergency vehicles in operation around the vicinity of Dublin Airport on Wednesday between the hours of 7pm and 9pm,” reports Breaking News.
