There are plans to set up a tented camp at an accommodation centre in Athlone. It is intended that the camp will house 200 people.
According to RTE and the Westmeath Independent, the decision has been made to enlarge the centre at Lissywollen by using tents.
This camp will not be used by Ukrainians fleeing the war, but will instead be given to asylum seekers who have arrived here from other countries. The tented camp is said to be a temporary structure which will look after the people coming into the country.
Is has been reported that the new camp will have four large tents and that each tent will be divided into mini bedrooms. They will also have full toilet and washing facilities with meals being provided.
