Broadcaster Kieran Cuddihy has departed Newstalk and is set to become the new presenter of Liveline on RTÉ Radio, reports Breaking News.
Newstalk staff were informed of his exit on Thursday evening via an internal email from senior management, confirming that Thursday’s episode of The Hard Shoulder was his final one.
Cuddihy is taking over the reins of Liveline following the retirement of Joe Duffy earlier this year, reports Breaking News.
He has been a prominent figure at Newstalk since 2011 and became host of The Hard Shoulder, the station’s flagship daily news and current affairs show, in 2020.
Beyond his radio work, Cuddihy has also been a presenter on The Tonight Show on Virgin Media since February and recently served as moderator for the station’s first live presidential debate.
His appointment comes just hours after RTÉ revealed that longtime broadcaster Ray D’Arcy will be stepping down from his weekday afternoon programme on RTÉ Radio 1 after 11 years, reports Breaking News.
On Friday, RTÉ confirmed that a major reshuffle of its RTÉ Radio 1 programming schedule will take place later this year.
Under the new line-up, Today with David McCullagh will air from 9am, followed by a longer edition of Oliver Callan’s show from 11am until 1pm, reports Breaking News.
Rachael English will remain the presenter of News at One at lunchtime, before handing over to Liveline with Kieran Cuddihy from 1.45pm.
Louise Duffy will take on the 3pm slot with her one-hour show, while Katie Hannon and Colm Ó Mongáin will begin Drivetime from the earlier time of 4pm, reports Breaking News.
Two new names are also expected to join Morning Ireland, with RTÉ saying their identities will be revealed in the coming weeks.
According to RTÉ’s Director of Audio, Patricia Monahan: “This new schedule marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for RTÉ Radio 1. I’m also pleased to confirm that Sarah McInerney and Cormac Ó hEadhra will continue to be a regular presence on RTÉ and Radio 1. We look forward to sharing news of their new roles in the coming weeks,” reports Breaking News.
