“No lessons learned” Shannon residents warned that their lands could be under water within hours due to high rainfall

Residents and farmers living along the Shannon river have been warned that houses in multiple areas could flood in the next 36 hours due to increased rainfall.

The local authorities of Cavan in Limerick are taking preventive measures but nothing is certain with locals saying that “no lessons have been learned”.

Accorindg to RTE, Minister of State at the Office of Public Works with responsibility for flooding, Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran, said that the river’s water levels will exceed the ten-year flood mark by Tuesday.

Speaking to RTE in Athlone on Saturday morning, Moran said that he couldn’t give an undertaking that private homes would not be flooded in the coming days, but claimed that local authorities were working to not let that happen.
