According to an inspector’s report, the majority of asylum-seekers accommodated in Mosney Village, Co. Meath, were allowed to stay in Ireland but continued to reside in the old vacation complex, with some claiming they were unable to find other accommodations, reports Independent.

Seven02 of the 875 individuals were granted full refugee or subsidiary protection status during the June inspection. This means that they are permitted to stay in Ireland since there is a known danger that they would face significant harm if they returned to their home country.

Notice to vacate the facility by July was given to 250 tenants, who chose to look for private housing outside of it.

“Due to the lack of alternative accommodation options, some residents told inspectors they could not avail of more appropriate alternative accommodation and were anxious as a result,” the report from inspectors in the Health Information and Quality Authority (Hiqa) said, reports Independent.

The occupants of the facility lived there for two weeks to eight years on average.

Hiqa now has the authority to examine direct provision facilities and the living circumstances of asylum seekers residing in state-provided housing. Yesterday, it released seven reports, reports Independent.

A few inhabitants of Mosney expressed gratitude for their stay, calling it “very good” and “incredible,” while another stated they were “lucky” to have been housed there.

Every family or inhabitant had an own residence with a key, encouraging self-sufficient living in a safe setting.

The apartments under observation were equipped with fully functional kitchens, dining spaces, private shower and bathroom facilities, and were adorned with televisions, fitted closets, sofas and dining tables, reports Independent.
