The Oireachtas have announced that they will discuss the prospect of putting Conor McGregor’s face on the €1 coin.
Following The Notorious’ win over Jose Aldo last month which allowed him to claim the UFC Featherweight Championship, government.ie revealed that a petition was handed in to propose the change.
The petition – created by Patrick O’Leary and submitted to the government on December 15th – is being examined. Despite the hopes of fans, it is highly unlikely that a new special coin will be minted, given the fact that Ireland would need permission from the rest of the Eurozone.
The reason for this is that all coins are circulated throughout the Eurozone, and not just in a single member state.
