Only in Ireland: Construction firm being investigated for a number of structural safety issues across many school buildings bizarrely receives €14m in funding from the HSE to build an annex to University Hospital Limerick

Western Building Systems (WBS), the construction firm currently under investigation after a number of safety issues were identified at schools that the firm had built across the country, has now received €14m in funding from the HSE to erect more buildings.

The Irish Mirror brought this bizarre fact into light today.

WBS is responsible for 42 schools whose structural integrity was revealed to be unsound, prompting a review of WBS’s practices. Yet, the HSE seems to be ok with this, and has granted WBS the contract to build another ward at University Hospital Limerick.
